Valley of 1000 Hills Tour

The following day saw us embark on a Valley of 1000 Hills tour. It had rained the night before, and although it wasn’t raining, it was threatening. An early start (6:30am gulp) had us leaving the city of Durban and heading west to the Valley of 1000 Hills.

Valley of 1000 Hills

The Valley of 1000 Hills describes an area just 40 km or so out of Durban, and covers a number of residential and rural areas, including KwaNyswa and Isithumbi. We unfortunately didn’t have time to explore the area too much since we were booked for a 8am game drive at Tala Game Reserve.

Tala Game Reserve Safari Tour and Lunch

Tala Game Reserve was once again, simply fantastic. On arrival my guests were asked to jump onto the open game drive vehicles and off they went. Within two hours they had spotted Rhino, Giraffe, Hippo, Zebra, Kudu, Eland, Wildebeest… the tick list was really quite substantial! Unfortunately the rain then started coming down so everyone herded around the fire until lunch was served.

PheZulu Safari Park

After a fantastic buffet lunch at Tala Game Reserve, we all hopped onto the bus and headed off to the next destination, PheZulu Safari Park. Unfortunately it was raining quite steadily at this point, so instead of arriving at the park and exploring the Crocodile and Reptile park, most elected to stay out the rain and wait for the main event.

After a short tour ot the Zulu village (and I mean short, there’s just 3 huts), we all got seated and enjoyed the Zulu dancing put on in the (light) rain. From there, it was into the curio shop for mementos (these ladies know how to shop that’s for sure!) and then back to Durban.
