I collected my guests from their hotel at 6am and headed northwards uder some very threatening rain clouds. Although it wasn’t raining when we started off, just 30 minutes lated the heavens opened up and the rain thundered down! This didn’t bode well for our private safari day tour to the Hluhlwue Imfolozi Game Reserve but as I said to my guests, never say die!
Private Safari Tour to a Big 5 Game Reserve
We arrived at Nyalazi gate at just after 9am (we did stop along the route for coffee). Although the sky had lightened a great deal it was still very overcast. Every now and again a light drizzle would start up and then seemingly give up!
15 Minutes after arriving we were in the park and almost immedialely we scored with the first of our Big 5 animals being spotted – Elephant. We counted 30 elephant crossing the main road and for my guests who had never seen elephant before, it was probably the most exciting part of our day.
Journey of Giraffe
Onwards we went, and what a great day it turned out to be. Although we didn’t see any of the cats, we did see a lone Wild Dog (I didn’t get a picture, the Wild Dog moved off before I had a chance to get the camera out), Impala, Gnu, Buffalo, Zebra, Warthog, Water Buck and so many more animals. We also got to see a Leopard Tortoise as well as the tail of an Iguana has it crossed the road so very quickly.
A “journey” or “tower” of Giraffe reallsy impressed my guests, with about 20 or so scattered all about the vehicle, they all posed so gracefully for photo’s. And finally after a great, late lunch, as we headed towards the exit, a Hippo strolled past. What a fantastic way to end off our day.
