Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve and St.Lucia Estuary
Late last week I had a last minute overnight tour to the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve. I collected my guests late morning from their hotel in Durban, and headed direct to Hilltop Camp, with just a brief stop for lunch along the way (yup, we started pretty late in the day!).
The afternoon spent in the park was fantastic. Almost from the moment we entered the gates animals were drawn to us! We didn’t see the Lion or Leopard, but that was okay since the rest of the sightings left even me spellbound and speechless! In fact, things were so good, I kinda lost track of time and all of a sudden found ourselves overtaken by the dark!
After an excellent dinner followed by a much needed sleep, we started off the next morning with a game drive before breakfast. It seemed though that we were a little too lucky the day before and pickings were a little bit slimmer though we did come accross two Elephants that were objecting to the presence of some Buffalo!
We decided on an early breakfast after which we’d pack and head onto out next destination, St.Lucia Estuary. We managed to get onto the 12pm boat and enjoyed a fantastic mid-day cruise, it was so enjoyable I actually nodded off, something to do with the warm African sun, a gentle breeze and the lapping of water against the boat!
For a tour that was really pressed for time and so a little rushed, it still turned out to be a fantastic experience.
We have many more tours available that show off KwaZulu-Natal, from days spent in the bushveld, to hikes in the ‘Berg and even adventure tours by mountain-bike. Contact us for more information or visit our webpage.
