Durban Day Safari Tour at the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve
It’s probably the one tour I do 95% of the time, a day tour from Durban to the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve. On Thursday I collected my 2 clients from their hotel on the Durban beachfront (aka the Golden Mile) and started the long drive to the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve.
Durban Day Safari Tour at the Hlulhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve
The game reserve is a 2,5 hour drive away, so along the way I cover the history of Durban, the Zulu people and of course pointing out the various sites along the way. It helps break the ice and speeds up the journey a great deal.
Lion at the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve
On entering the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve I bumped into a ranger friend of mine who told me about a Lion sighting they had come across during the early morning game drive, so that was our first port of call and off we went.
It wasn’t too long before we came across the Lions! They are always an exciting site, even if for the most part the time the tend to be sleeping the days away!
Along the way to the Lion we spotted some Giraffe in the distance headed our way, so after viewing the Lion for some time I returned to where I thought the Giraffe might appear and as luck would have, they were exactly where I hoped!
Elephant at the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve
Our day was great, we spotted many different animals, including Kudu, Nyala and Waterbuck. One of the highlights of the day though, was a fantastic sighting of a Bull Elephant that just popped into view out of nowhere (the bush was really thick). After inspecting us carefully, the Elephant walked along the roadside next to us for some time before finally turning off and heading deeper into the bush.
Successful Day Trip to the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve
After a picnic lunch inside the reserve, we spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying watching Rhino and Wildebeest graze together, as well as the amazing bird life in the park. We were also fortunate to come across a pair of African Fish Eagles! Our day was rounded off fantastically by the sighting of a newborn Impala being thoroughly cleaned by a proud mom.
