A recent overnight tour to Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve had my clients and I trying to fit quite a bit into just two days, when you consider how much there is too see at Hluhluwe, St.Lucia and Emdoneni, it is a tall order! We started off leaving Durban early and headed direct for Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve.
Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve
As usual, the tour to Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve didn’t disappoint. We didn’t get to see Lion or Leopard, but honestly, there is so much more to the park that we more than made up for that! From Kite Spiders, Golden Orb Spiders, Water Monitors, Long Crested Hawk Eagles, Impala’s… the list is almost endless, it just goes on and on (I must really invest in a tick app!).
What was particularly interesting, was that the entire population of Elephant had for some reason decided to make their way up into the Hluhlulwe section of the park, you could hardly through a stick in any direction without hitting a friendly pachyderm! It made for exciting viewing, but naturally, when you’re in a hurry to leave the park, you going to get stuck in an African traffic jam!
A colleague joked that they were all in the area for an Elephant funeral, everyone laughed politely but I got the feeling that some may have actually believed it!
It was pretty amazing to see so many of these gentle giants going about their business. And in the company of Giraffe, Zebra and Warthog! Rhino were also out and about Buffalo just spent their days wallowing!
From the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve we hurried out to Emdoneni to catch the start of the morning cat show and to learn about South Africa‘s endangered wild cat species. From there we headed back to Durban, tired but I think, well chuffed!
