Lions are particularly easy to find. You need patience and great deal of luck. It just so happens that we had loads of luck on one of our recent Durban Day Safari Tours when on our way towards the gate we came across a lioness busy sunning herself on the middle of the road.

Lioness on our Durban Day Safari Tour

Generally lions live up to about 12 years old in the wild, though in captivity they have been known to live up to 20 years old. A fully grown male can reach 180kg and females 130kg’s.

The female we spotted snoozing in the bush is indicative of what lions tend to do for most of the day, sleep! Lions are inactive for up to 20 hours in a day. They are also nocturnal fro the most part.
