The Hluhluwe/Imfolozi Game Reserve has definitely become one my favorite places to visit at any time of the year. The weather two weeks ago was absolutely beautiful, with clear blue skies, hot days with enough of a breeze to keep one cool. And there’s few things as enjoyable as driving through African ‘veld’ with the windows down, listening to the myriad of bird calls interrupted by elephant trumpets!
I collected my guests from COP17, it seems they had a bit of a gap to go on a “safari” and although it was really only a day and a half they had available, we definitely got quite a bit done, including getting to Emdoneni in time to watch the cats being fed!
We were also incredibly lucky to come across a female African Wild Dog with 4 pups in tow, apparently she had disappeared from the area for quite some time and had only now re-appeared.
Seen this trip…
- A lone Bull Elephant.
- An old Buffalo wallowing in the mud just a meter or two from the vehicle!
- White Rhino
- Vervet Monkeys
- Waterbuck (he stood still for a second and then turned and ran… but I’m counting him anyway!)
- African Wild Dog
