It all came about pretty quickly, I got a call from a colleague for assistance in taking some German visitors for a day tour to the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve. So after all the preparations were made, I collected my clients from their hotels in Durban at 6:30am and off we went for our day tour to the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve.

Leaving Durban

We left Durban at around 7:00 after collecting from the Quarters Hotel and leaving via Umhlanga. It was a fairly overcast day with some rain, but this in no way detracted from the excitement of my German guests, who were not only in Durban for the first time, but also about to embark on their very first safari!

4 out of 5

It was pretty amazing then that we had such a fantastic day. We saw 4 of the big 5, only missing out on Leopard. We also saw Crocodile, a Monitor Lizard, Waterbuck, Impala, Nyala, Giraffe, Buffalo, Zebra, Warthog, Baboon, Monkeys and a whole host of birdlife, including raptors like the Tawny Eagle and Yellow Billed Kite.

It’s always amazing to me to think that less then 3 hours away from the hustle and bustle of a growing and vibrant city like Durban, there lies this magnificent place. A durban day tour to the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve is certainly within everyone’s grasp, and more people should visit.
